Millfield Primary work with staff, colleagues and families to safeguard children.
Safeguarding & Child Protection Statement: Under Section 175 of the Education Act 2002 (as amended), the Education (Independent School Standards) Regulations 2024, the Non-Maintained Special Schools (England) Regulations 2015 and the Apprenticeship, Skills, Children and Learning Act 2009 (as amended) schools must have arrangements in place to safeguard and promote the welfare of children.
We will endeavour to provide a safe and welcoming environment where children are respected and valued.
All schools have a statutory duty to all children to ensure they are safe. We will therefore be alert to signs of abuse and neglect and will follow the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Safeguarding Children Partnership Board's procedures to ensure that children receive appropriate and effective support and protection.
It is our legal duty to report any obvious or suspected case of child abuse - which includes non-accidental injury, severe physical neglect, emotional abuse and/or sexual abuse. This procedure is intended to protect children at risk and schools are encouraged to take the attitude that 'it is better to be safe than sorry'. This does mean that a senior leader may risk upsetting some parents by reporting a case to the Local Authority which, on investigation, proves unfounded. In such circumstances, it is hoped that parents, appreciating how difficult it is for the senior leader to carry out this delicate responsibility, would accept that they were acting in the child’s best interest.
Millfield Primary work in partnership with Social Care and may seek advice from them; this may include making a referral if this is appropriate.
